The Lion and the Lamb

Why the Title?

The Lion and the Lamb is a biblical reference to the person of Jesus Christ. In the book of Revelation it refers to Jesus in this way as He was Gods sacrificial Lamb, and also the righteous warrior and Judge.

This website is filled with Christian business references and ethical business. The businesses and websites that are featured here are sites that we like, but in no way do we endorse them - we just like the sound or look of them.

Business today has become more about PR exercises as opposed to authenticity and caring service. So often there are loopholes in contracts, small print, big advertising campaigns that skew the realities. There is one advert in particular for eyelash mascara in which there is small print that flashes up on the bottom of the screen stating that the eyelashes in the pictures have had inserts artificially enhancing them!

So what should be done? Well there are laws in place already saying such things (I think) as when it comes to big adverts such as '50 PERCENT OFF', the small print (such as 'on some items' or 'up to') must be equally clear. The problem is of course that this is hardly ever enforced, at least not as far as my experience goes of walking down the high streets in England.

So again, what should be done?

Don't know. The problem is probably more in companies hearts as opposed to the legislation. The legislation is there to protect people, but, such is the scale of the issue (most shops do it) that policing the problem would be a massive undertaking. The voice of the public would probably be the best solution. If enough people cared, it would probably stop. The issue is that people accept 'rubbish' as 'the way it is'.

Ethical Driving Lessons Comparison Website

Choosy Learner Ltd. is a driving lessons comparison website, easily enabling contact between driving instructors and pupils for the purpose of getting a good price. Although there is no verification as to the driving instructors themselves, the website itself does 'what it says on the tin'. According to a leading driver training website, there have been no significant problems, simply a good service.

With so many driving instructors around - both good and bad - investigating and asking probing questions into their skills and experience is a must if you are wanting to ensure that you are securing yourself a good deal, not simply a so-called good price. A good price for driving lessons is no longer good if the quality of instructor means that further expert driver training would be required, therefore boositing the price further.

Why support ethical business?

The temptation is always there to simply do what is easiest and best for ourselves. Getting the cheapest can therefore seem like the best idea. The problem is that sometimes the cheapest is not the best long term soution for everyone, and if others see the authentic businesses thriving then there is more incentive to be authentic. Being authentic in a world of falsity is not easy - why would a company want to say something like 'we cannot guarantee results only good work' when another company is saying 'we guarantee results' - with the small print saying 'not really'!

Hiring A Good Lawyer

The first and arguably most important point is to know that you are actually right in the case that you intend to fight. There is enough injustice in the world without your pride and money causing yet another one. Although a 'good' lawyer may be able to get someone off on some sort of twisted technicality, I would say that the detrimental outcome of that is going to be much worse for everyone else involved than the benefit of saving a few pounds in the short term.

I speak with some experience here. I have been taken to court by a company who knew they were wrong (or, if they didn't they seemed to be unaware that each and every time they contacted me, they contradicted something that they said elsewhere). I am thoroughly grateful that the judge looked into the detail of the case and threw out the claim against me, but how horrible it would have been if they had been successful! Not only would I have been significantly impacted from a financial point of view, but I would also have lost faith in the entire British legal system.

I read a good lawyer joke recently:

A housewife, an accountant and a lawyer were asked "How much is 5+5?" The housewife replies: "Ten! ".
The accountant says: "I think it's either 9 or 10. Let me run those figures through my spreadsheet one more time. "
The lawyer pulls the drapes, dims the lights and asks in a hushed voice, "How much do you want it to be? "

This 'joke' really rings true in our corrupt society. In my understanding, every time you employ the services of a solicitor, you are employing a legal, technical person to fight against someone with 'perceived weight' with little or no care for who is right and wrong.

I know that there are exceptions to the rule, but the current system is surely a little bit open to question to say the least - even if that is real, moral question as opposed to a technical, written one.
